I was watching Future Weapons the other night and they featured the HK as the ultimate future battle rifle. How does this compare to our beloved Sig ? It appeared to operate in a similar fashion to the Sig so I was curious as to why the HK got so much hype with no mention of the Sig.
Just wondering Remove Advertisement. Messages: 2, Likes Received: 2 Trophy Points: 0. HK even coppied the "little black extractor insert" found in the AR's extractor cup Thanks as always Ullie! I did purchase the Sig and just took it to the range this past weekend. LOVED it! I did have one question though: What is the best way to remove the firing pin for cleaning?
I can take apart every other piece of the rifle but can't seem to break loose the firing pin. I followed the instructions in the manual but short of taking a large hammer and punch to the notch on the assembly, I can't seem to figure out how to depress the spring and release the pin.
Any suggestions? Thanks Ullie! Messages: 23 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 0.Although its design is based on the AR class of weapons, specifically the Colt M4 carbine family issued to the U. Delta Force replaced its M4s with the HK inafter tests revealed that the piston operating system significantly reduces malfunctions while increasing the life of parts.
It has been adopted as the standard rifle of the Norwegian Armed Forces and the French Armed Forces and is used by many special operations units worldwide. As of Marchfielding of IARs had been completed of 4, ordered. The HK uses a HK-proprietary short-stroke gas piston system that derives from the HK G36forgoing the concentric to bore gas piston system standard in AR rifles. This design prevents combustion gases from entering the weapon's interior—a shortcoming with direct impingement systems.
During factory tests the HK fired 10, rounds in full-auto without malfunctioning. The HK rail forearm can be installed and removed without tools by using the bolt locking lug as the screwdriver. The rail forearm is "free-floating" and does not contact the barrel, improving accuracy.
The HK has an adjustable multi-position telescopic butt stock, offering six different lengths of pull. The shoulder pad can be either convex or concave and the stock features a storage space for maintenance accessories, spare electrical batteries or other small kit items.

It can also be switched out for other variations like Magpul stocks. The cold hammer-forging process provides a stronger barrel for greater safety in case of an obstructed bore or for extended firing sessions. Modifications for an over-the-beach OTB capability such as drainage holes in the bolt carrier and buffer system are available to let the HK fire safely after being submerged in water.
In Julythe U. Ten examples of each of the four competitors were involved. Each weapon fired 60, rounds in an extreme dust environment. The shoot-off was for assessing future needs, not to select a replacement for the M4.
The M4 carbine scored "significantly worse" than the rest of the field with stoppages. Army officials said, in Decemberthat the new magazines could be combat-ready by spring of if testing went well.By thebuns1July 18, in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!! It's not a bad rifle, relatively light, and fairly accurate. Real loud though. I'm not a fan of AR-style rifles as a general rule, they just don't fit me well, but this one was pretty close.
As an extra bump for their reliability, the I shot didn't even have grease on it, just Rem oil.Single stroke font illustrator
The guy who let me try his rifle out hadn't really looked into grease and disliked cleaning his weapons, but this gun still ran well. It's not a knock on the guy cause I like him, but it's not the way I would treat a rifle that expensive.
HK customer service leaves as soon as the package is opened. We sell all 3 of them. I believe Yeager is in the E. My buddy has one and the ability to change barrels easily is a selling point to me as well as it being a quality weapon.
He also has a LMT. I was at an event where they demoed an Hk all day long. I didn't get to shoot it but they basically took a new rifle out of the box and then let different bigshots do full auto mag dump after mag dump without a hiccup for hours.4 letter words for phone numbers
If the MR uses the same guts minus the "Go Fast" parts I would definitely spend the big bucks and get best thing right off the bat. I wouldn't have a fighting rifle without a chrome bore. HK really screwed the pooch on this one. Not meaning to hijack the thread but for the record James Yeager isn't someone I'd take advice from nor idolize. He is a self proclaimed tactical guru who did some Law Enforcement work fired four times from what I hearhas zero military experience, and limited PSD work in Iraq which didn't go to well when he got a couple of teammates KIA on Route Irish in Baghdad.
He may be tight with Barrett, maybe getting a check from them for the endorsement. They just chose the wrong guy to represent them. Barrett, however, is GTG with me although the only tool I have used from their toolbox is the M82A1 which went bang everytime. You may be correct about Yeager. My post certainly did not infer any type of idolization or admiration. No one had posted specific info on the Barrett and his forum was the one place I thought the OP might find a fair amount of coverage about it.
Since R.Kmedia fox
Barrett invented his 50cal weapon and the military sure seems to like it I figure his qualifications concerning weapons and related issues is probably at least as good as anyone posting on this forum. I saw a recent show where Yeager's training group had the Barrett's and their weapons involved in a training exercise.Make PoliceOne your homepage. Quick, name two letters that, when put together, have become synonymous with accuracy, dependability, and innovation. Heckler and Koch — HK for short — is a German firm that is known for supplying military and police forces with some of the best firearms currently available.
HK rifles have traditionally worked with a system of bolt rollers that lock the action shut. HK has enjoyed tremendous success with the roller locking system but has become more mainstream with its G36 assault rifle.
More recently, Heckler and Koch has applied its considerable experience with weapons research and development to the British SA bullpup. But unlike the conventional AR, the HK replaces the dirty and somewhat problematic gas tube with a solid push rod. This solid rod helps keep carbon and firing residue out of the upper receiver.
More information on the gas tube vs. There are a number of companies producing piston-driven ARs. I recently had the opportunity to test and evaluate some of these rifles and my thoughts can be read here. That leg is military acceptance. In fact, the HK was originally produced at the request of US special operations troops. These soldiers wanted a rifle that was extremely reliable, required little maintenance, would work in all environmental conditions and function with or without a sound suppressor.
Special Operations community appears to be very limited. Others claim that the rifle is too expensive and requires too many unique spare parts, making field repair difficult for troops who may be operating deep behind enemy lines. Both could be correct, half true or completely false and the truth behind this limited acceptance is not likely to be known anytime soon. While the IAR is fairly new in the Marine Corps inventory, initial reports seem to indicate that the rifle has been well received by those using it.
The HK has also had some success internationally and is being used by a number of military and police departments across the globe the most notable user being Norway, which has been issuing it in large numbers. In Civilian Clothes While the HK is intended for military and law enforcement sales, the civilian shooter can also purchase his own version of this battle-proven AR. I requested one of these rifles from HK as part of my earlier series on piston driven rifles but a sample was not available in time for my earlier articles.

Externally, the MRA1 looks very much like its military counterpart but lacks the chrome plated chamber and bore of the military model. The highest quality steel is used in this unique manufacturing process producing a barrel that provides superior accuracy and long service life. Chrome-lining can sometimes mask bore imperfections and negatively affect accuracy.
For the new series of Heckler and Koch semi-automatic MR rifles, HK designers and engineers believe best accuracy comes with an unlined bore. The MRA1 features a These parts are easily field stripped from the rifle but the quad rail must be removed in order to access these parts. It has the potential to be far more reliable than the run of the mill AR. In the bolt carrier, the cotter key firing pin retainer has been replaced with a captured pin that stays with the carrier.
Another, more intriguing, change to the carrier is the addition of a firing pin block. This block is basically a lever with a hook on one end that locks the firing pin in place. The differentiating of firearms is a challenge nowadays, considering the availability of hundreds of brands in the market. It is because every model we come across carries typical features, making it incomparable with the others.
The same perception is applicable to M4 and HK also.
However, a gun savvy can explain the difference by taking into account various aspects such as price, size, capacity, trigger system, ergonomics, reliability, purpose etc. It is an improved version of the M4 carbine. The short stroke gas piston system of the carbine is designed in such a way that when it drives the operating rod it will force the bolt carrier to the rear. This design does not allow combustion gases from entering the interior of the carbine.
It is available in the form of a whole weapon and is also offered as an upper receiver kit attachment to any AR type lower receiver. The aiming and illumination gadgets, the grips, and an AG 40 mm grenade launcher could be fixed on the set of rails. Even after firing 30 rounds on full automatic, the bolt will remain cool so that it can be handled by bare hand. The heat reduction leads to decrease in the fouling of the bolt carrier group which in turn increases the dependability of the weapon.
At the same time it also diminishes the number of stoppages. With HK, the operator cleaning time can be saved a lot, and it avoids tension about the critical components. It can withstand adverse environmental situations, having the ability to fire without using lubricants.
The lack of lubricant keeps sand and mud away from the weapon, which improves its reliability. That means it can be fired soon after being in water or buried in sand or mud. The winter trigger guard works well with gloves or winter clothing. HK gives protection against accidental discharge. It has customized assembly interfaces and modified receiver connections. The HK is provided with modular interface for bayonet and a foldable front sight on barrel having variable length of Its carbine integrates a direct gas operating system.
The length of its barrel is The carbine is compact with a flat top upper receiver assembly, and is significantly easy to carry it in limited space due to the shorter barrel. The gun has a U-shaped handle-rear sight assembly which is removable. The grouping of mounting rails makes it convenient for customization with different attachments such as sight, flashlight, grenade launchers etc.
The Muzzle velocity of the weapon is low, whereas the sound is loud, because of the reduced barrel length. The M4 is known to be a selective firearm, having the facility to fire semi-automatic as well as automatically.
The weapon is light and very accurate. The most important feature of M4 is its ability to execute fast-point close-quarters fire. However, any failure to maintain it properly will cause jams in hostile environments like sandy and dusty surroundings. Cite Chandrasekaran Punalur.Rogue legacy enemies

The gas piston pushes the bolt carrier rearward, where it is returned to the forward and locked position by a spring. This process loads the next cartridge.

The rifle is hammer-fired and has a two-stage trigger mechanism in the SIG Marksman, while all others have a military specification single-stage trigger. I'd go Daniel Defense, I've had a complete LW V3 upper two years and for that plus other reasons think you'll end up with a better rifle than the Sig.
QuentinSep 4, Sep 4, 6. I own 2 sigs but in this case i vote dd my baby. Sep 5, 7. Has anyone heard any negatives about the new ? Sep 5, 8. Sig makes a fine product.

Well damn I guess that settles that argument. There are no better barrels made than Chrome Molly Vanadium Barrels. Known as and Mil Spec. As far as DI compared to Piston.
